...use Clomid or some type of prescription to get pregnant?

I will be put on some sort of form of Glucophage to help me ovulate so I can join you all on the pg boards (hopefully). I just need some input as to how long it took for anyone that had to have help ovulating to get pregnant and if they had any side effects?
Please let me know. I will hopefully start taking it by the end of this week (I think it's Metmorfin??) The doctor is calling it in today for me. Thanks!

I took it to get pg the first time. Clomid that is. I ended up having a tubal pgncy but my doctor assured me that it was completley unrelated to the medicine and just a mechanical problem that sometimes happens. It happened on the first try for me. I was going to take it again this time and even took provera to get my periods started but right after I took that I ovulated on my own and ended up pg. So, hopefully it will work fast for you. I did not really have any side effects cause I took the lowest dosage. I hope that helps. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the tubal pgncy but don't let that scare you. I just didn;t have to take it again after that one time so I couldn't really not mention it, ya know! Good luck!

Thanks Beth! You didn't scare me about that tubal preg.

I just thought it was wierd that a doctor prescribes a diabetic prescription for ovulation. I guess there is something in the drug that causes women to O. That just blows my mind!

IS Clomid a diabetic prescription?? I did not know that. Anyway, my doctor told me that the success rates are really good when the cause for anovulation is just hormonal imbalance. I am one big hormonal mess and it worked for me!! What is it prescirbed for for diabetics? The same thing or a different problem?

I am editing cause I just reread your first post and saw that you might be referring to a different medication and not clomid. I am still interested to find out what it does for diabetics though so if you find out, let me know.

Beth - The doctor decided to put me on Metmorfin...(generic brand of Glucophage)...to help me ovulate. He said the success rate has been better with Metmorfin than with Clomid. So Metmorfin is the diabetic prescription that is also prescribed for ovulation purposes. I think this is strange, but I think I read on the internet yesterday that the hormone needed to help ovulate acts as insulin. I don't know if I read it correctly or not. I can't even remember where I read that.

Thats interestting. Well, if the success rates are better than clomid then it must be some good stuff. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope that you sail through it with no side effects and that it is just what your bod needs to get you pg!!

My best friend miscarried and stopped ovulating after that. It took them a while to figure out that that was her problem. They put her on this, and she got pregnant right away.

I have another friend who is on it right now. She took one "round", and her husband was sent away on emergency business, so nothing happened that month. She was SO aggrevated. She has been ovulating on and off, and they are going to start another round this week, I think. Her doctor is really positive about it.
