OMG! Get to the friggin' bus stop!

I sent Haley off to the bus stop at 7:10 this morning (her bus comes at 7:30 about .4 miles away). She stops 2 houses down every morning and picks up 3 of her friends. This morning at 7:20 I see her in her normal slow 7 yr old walk, making her way back down our driveway. I went outside and asked her why she wasn't at the bus stop.
She told me that when she got to her friend's house, her friend said that it was too late to make it to the bus stop and to see if I would drive them. First of all, it is not too late, you could still run and make it, second, my CAR IS BROKEN DOWN AND YOU KNOW THAT!
Last week before the car broke they truly missed the bus and I drove them so I think the other girl who is a few years older than Haley decided that since she doesn't like riding the bus, they could just "miss the bus" again.
OMG I got so mad. There are times when she does something and there is nothing I can do to fix it, that I really feel like I could blow.
I told her that she had better turn her butt around and run to the bus. If she doesn't make it, I am going to be so pissed. I truly love my daughter but I have an infant, a toddler, and a messy house to deal with today. I don't need the added stress of having her home.

My son has purposely tried to miss the bus too.

I hope that she made it!!

Elaine does she walk to the bus stop 4 miles away? Just curious because (since I'm learning all this stuff) our county, maybe state, won't allow a child under 12 to get on or off the bus without an adult present

If I don't see an adult that I am familiar with (as the regular bus driver) I am not allowed to let that child off the bus....I have to take them back to the school

No, it is .4 Miles away. Less than half a mile. The rule in our county, is that a child in K, 1st, or 2nd grade can't get off the bus at a location with no familiar adult. Haley is in 2nd grade but because there are 4 parents regularly at the stop she can get off. (14 kids get on at our road)
When the situation came up that she would need to start walking to and from the bus stop on her own, I first went to the parent that lives 2 houses down (with older girls) and asked if Haley could stop at their house every morning and walk with them, than I asked 2 of the parents who stay at the bus stop if they would mind keeping an eye on her. We live in a really small subdivision (It is actually only a 1/2 mile road with another 1/4 mile road branching off of it) and we all know eachother. Their are a few parents out here that I trust regularly with my daughter.
I was really nervous at first, but it has worked out well over the past 4 months.

OMGosh!! Michele....this is what I have to look forward to

Elaine, I can't believe that she missed it It sounds like you went to great lengths to make sure that Haley is safe at the bus stop From what my instructor tells me, the bus driver is the first adult that some kids see in the mornings Can you imagine? Without me here, my kids would never even get their lazy butts out of bed let alone to the bus stop

Oh I know Sheila! I was watching Oprah yesterday and there was a mom who put the phone next to her 11 yr old daughter's head every morning so that she could give her a wake up call to get ready for school from work.
I can't imagine my child getting up, getting ready, and making it to the bus on her own. She has to be prompted every step of the way getting ready in the morning.

Sheila,

That is how ours is so it must be a state thing. Except for the day they put Smanatha on the wrong bus and lost her. They droped her off at the sitters and over there they have to walk to the bus too. Where at our house it is door to door service.
