There were NUTS in the cookies!

We just got back from Walmart. They had free cookies in the bakery for kids and I checked over the cookie before giving it to Maddie and I did not see any nuts in it. She ate it and Court told me to look at her and she is having an allergic reaction to the NUTS that are in the cookies! I had to run across the store and grab some benedryl for her and force her to take it in the store. Meanwhile her eyes are almost SWOLLEN shut and she has hives all over her mouth and hands. I went to the customer service desk and complained and the manager told me they are only supposed to pass out sugar cookies and she ran off to deal with that. I told her they need to put a sign up and that I try and check for nuts but it is hard to see sometimes. She wanted to know if Maddie needed to got to the doctor and I said I did not know yet and I still do not know. Her eyes and face are still swollen and I am really angry and really scared too!

Oh no! Make sure if she has to go you make them pay for it...They are required to post a sign that there are nuts in it!

Oh My goodness!!! Where they stupid or something? If you are only suppose to give out sugar cookies well my goodness that is what you give out. I would be pissed at Wal-Mart too!!

I hope Maddie will get better SOON! Call the hospital and tell them what happened and see if they tell you to bring her in.

Court is on the phone with his mom right now..she is an RN. We have her epi-pen if needed that we can use but I think she is going to be ok. The swelling is almost gone.

Glad to hear that the swelling went down

that must have been horrible for you!

I work in the bakery dept at my store sometimes and i know we are forbidden to give out any nut cookies, anything that touches the pb cookies has to be sanitized before it is reused!

sorry you had to go through that!

She is doing well! Still a few hives on her hands and her face is still red. One eye is still a little bit swollen and she looks a bit puffy bit other than that she is her normal self. Had to bribe her to take more benedryl a bit ago...works really well!

I'm glad she's doing better now, Meg!

Wow, that's scary! One of DH's friends has a peanut allergy, and I've seen how quickly that can kick in. Frightening!

The issue is not so much that they're only supposed to give out sugar cookies. They ought to post the ingredients list for the cookies. I mean, if you buy them, you've got an ingredients list, right? Even on store-made cookies. Just how hard would it be to photocopy and enlarge that, and tack it to the bloomin' table?

Write a letter, definitely.

to all of you.

Poor baby! You'd think that they'd know better--as many kids as there are that are allergic to nuts and even chocolate and stuff!
