Open Top Swings

Thread Starter
I have noticed lately that there seem to be more open-top baby swings than the "old" style. But I haven't heard anything particular about any of them. Does anyone have a particular one that they think is better than another?

Love them-love them-love them!!
There are no more bumped heads while getting the baby in and out of there. It is a lot easier than the older ones that are not open. I had the other kind with my first dd and must say that I saw a HUGE difference!
I have a Graco 3 speed that I think is simply wonderful. We ended up getting this one off of eBay and I think it is one of the best purchases we ever made. I also love the fact that they are battery operated now rather than the noisy wind-up kind that seemed to always wake up the baby!!

I also have a Graco 3 speed that has been great. I did see something advertised recently that looks pretty neat. It is a swing that converts to a high chair! Neat concept because the swing just takes up space after about 3-4 months anyway.

Jen,

I think I have the same one as you! I love it! And so did Christian! We have it in a box waiting for the next baby

Just more positives from me, the Graco 3 speed that we have kept me sane with the boys when they were tiny. Aaron would still be in it if I let him. I couldn't give that product enough praise!!!!!!

Just a note -- Babies R Us is having an online sale with $8 of any Infant Swing, including an open top one. http://www.babyuniversity.com/forums...&threadid=7776

btw -- I bought an open top swing for this baby! They can stay in it so much longer. When Cody was about 4 months, he was such a large baby that I really couldn't get him in and out the older ones without a lot of headaches (literally - LOL). At the playschool he went to, they had open top swings and he could still sit in them at 1 year!

This time around, that was the first purchase I made! I think I got the Grace 6 spee one, but I haven't even taken it out of the box yet ... so I can't honestly review it.

Christian stayed in his swing until May of this year. When I took it down and packed it away for the move. He could still fit in it. In fact I think they say they can stay in until 20 pounds if not a little more. I can't remember exactly. But with Christian being smaller he used his a long time!

I never could use mine that long. My kids would grab on to the poles and I was afraid they were going to tip it over!

I could only use mine until she was about 7 or 8 months old becuase of that same reason--grabbing the poles. She got to where she could squirm around in it and I was afraid that she would jump out!
I know that she COULD still ride in it if it were not for that reason. It is powerful enough to keep her going and there is plenty of room for her.

We have the Graco 6-speed and loved it!! When we stopped using it, Alexander had just started grabbing the poles, but we really stopped using it because he was getting bored with it and didn't like being in it so much anymore - he was around 8 months.

Also, the bigger he got, the quicker the batteries ran out - not that we minded as long as it helped give us a few minutes of peace!! I also think the open top makes it easier for guys because they are so tall and don't have to try to stoop so far down.

I have the Graco one I love that you can attach toys to the tray

I had the Grace 6 speed that played music at like 4 or 5 different levels. Can't praise it enough - it saved my sanity more than once when nothing would get Ally to sleep. And, yes, they do suck batteries dry faster as they get heavier. But I read a review that says the cheap regular batteries are just as good as the expensive ones, so head to the dollar store. Ally stayed in hers till she was about 7 months. Had to quit using it when she started screaming whenever you confined her in anything!

I also have a graco open top swing and I like the fact that you can interchange toys using the tray on the swing. I thought that was pretty neat.
