If your 5 or 6 year old...

was invited to a pool party (at a Rec center, not someones house)
would you assume that it is okey to just drop them off and leave, or would you stay?
We had Morgan's birthday party on Saturday at the pool and he invited 4 girls from his class and 6 other children that he's known since birth. The people we have known for years stayed in the pool with their children, but the other ones just dropped their kids off and left. Doug and I had our three kids (including 2.5yr old Abby) and four other girls we were trying to keep track of. O f course there are 3 different pools and the kids all want to be in different pools. We couldn't get into the party room until later, so we were hoping to leave the pool a little early and get the room set up, but we had these extra girls to watch. Then I had to get myself showered and changed, as well as Abby and two other girls.
I think one of their parents could of stayed even if they didn't want to go into the pool, there was lots of places to sit and watch. None of the kids were very good swimmers.
I just know I would never leave my kindergardener at a pool party unless I knew the parents and made sure it was ok with them.

Pool party - would have stayed with them until they were 12 or so AND they knew how to swim. (Not that I do. )

Any party at that age - I would have been there, unless it was a wonderful friend of mine or just across the street.

I agree with you. I would never have left them.

DD went to a pool party when she was in second grade. There were only two other kids there because the party was on a holiday weekend, and the other kids who were invited couldn't make it. When DH dropped her off, he asked the mother if she wanted him to stay, and she said no, she and her husband could keep track of the kids since there weren't many of them. If there had been more kids there, DH definitely would have stayed to keep an eye on her.

No way, always stayed and even if I did not swim I was there to help, run little ones to the bathroom or towel off, what ever was needed.
I can not believe they did that. Different strokes for different folks. Sorry you had more then you should of been able to handle.
