shoes?

We got out Kate's shoes today and she was more than a little upset at the prospect of footwear. Any ideas on how to get your baby to wear shoes without screaming? So far she seems to think shoes are great fun for playing with, but she does not want them on her feet!

Well, they just kind of hafta get used to them...Issac doesn't like wearing them sometimes, but I make him wear them while we're out. If he pulls them off, I just put them back on!

Mine have always worn shoes, so I guess they didn't have a chance not to like them.

Neither of my kids minding wearing shoes too much when they were babies but if they did take them off when they were somewhere they HAD to wear shoes, I would sit them down and unless they let me put their shoes back on, keep saying "No. Not without shoes" and sitting them back down when they tried to get up.
I don't have a great answer for you. Some babies just hate shoes.

DS has always worn shoes, so I'm no help. Maybe just start out w/ some slippers, until she gets used to the sensation ??

We use soft soled shoes.... kind of like slippers, but with leather, and they do not fall off his feet!

great for learning to walk and stuff... they are Called Robeez... Canadian made I love them

i have tried a pair of shoes on him... and he absolutely hated it... when he is older i will force the issue, but for now my Robeeze are awesome

We always had shoes on Lys- at least when we went out somewhere, and for the most part she wore them. She loves her shoes now. So I guess I am no help.

Shoes cost a lot and they aren't 100% necessary, so we never got her any. We were also told by my right from the start ladies (both of them actually) not to keep shoes on her because she needed to strengthen her fet by flexing them a lot and that would help her walk faster. Genie also told me that. Now, summer is coming and she will definitely be walking outside, so we want her to get used to wearing shoes.

I never put shoes on Grant until after he had learned to walk. He learned pretty quick that if he wanted to walk around outside that he had to wear shoes.

Olivia has always liked wearing shoes, so I don't have any suggestions. I think Lisa had a good suggestion though.

I always heard that too Lenora, but I agree with her walking outside this summer she will need to wear shoes. Maybe she will like sandals that her toes can stretch in more than closed toe shoes.
Just make sure you get ones that the strap over the toes is adjustable with velcro because baby feet are so hard to squeeze under those straps.

Alexander never wore shoes until he started walking so he was around one. We had a problem getting him to try on any shoes, much less wear them. So we just kept trying, putting them on him in the house and eventually he got use to them. Only took about a week.

Elizabeth hasn't worn any yet either and now that she's walking, we'll have to get her some and I know she'll be the same way. I'm trying to wait until closer to summer, though, so we can get her sandles and so she won't have outgrown them.

i have a ton of shoes that have barely been worn that my SIL gave me. I figured since Kate never likes to be rushed into anything, I would start getting her used to them now.

I don't blame you for doing that. I plan to use all of Alexander's shoes with Elizabeth that I can except for his first pair - those have been packed away for memories. I want to do the same with Elizabeth's first pair as well and then move on to Al's old shoes - at least the ones that don't look so boyish which is most!! But she can hopefully use his sandels for the summer.

Kelsey started wearing them full time when winter started. When she was born she was always the sleeper type things so her feet were covered plus she had a big snow suit on. When it got cold this year we got her shoes so her little feet didn't get cold. It wasn't a big deal to her. She just went with the flow...lol

My kids all wore shoes from the start, so I am not much help. I think helping her get used to them slowly is a great idea!

Jon Jon has always worn shoes, too. Never had a problem until he discovered how easy it is to get the Velcro ones open. Now he loves to pull off his socks and shoes and HIDE them.

I can hear velcro undoing at 100 yards!! Just about all of Jared's shoes have the velcro closures, and it didn't take him long at all to figure out how to get them off !!
