Conception following a miscarriage
answered by: Peg Plumbo of ParentsPlace.com

Question: I had a miscarriage a couple of weeks ago. This was a tremendous loss for us but we've grieved the death of our first, have celebrated his life and we are anxious to try again! My doctor says that we can try to conceive after one cycle. My cycles are usually 26 days. How long should it take before my next period?

Answer:Following uncomplicated miscarriage, most women who had regular cycles previously will have a period within four to six weeks following the completion of the miscarriage. It does depend on how far along you were, whether you had any instrumentation, such as a curretage, or if there were any retained products. If you had a spontaneous miscarriage without any prolonged bleeding, it is a safe bet that you would ovulate within two to four weeks after the miscarriage. If you take your basal body temperature or do cervical mucus observations, you will discover when ovulation occurs.

I didn't see this until now. Thanks for posting this Wolfy. I wish I had seen it right after my miscarriage. I would have known to wait instead of trying again right away which is what I did. I was of the serious and prolonged bleeding catagory.
