Plant holder/ Betta fish bowl

Has anyone made any of these yet??

I saw these for the first time a few months ago- I thought they came from a florist shop or something..

It is a glass vase that you purchase at Wal-Mart ($2.97 each), and then you put glass stones (about $.98 each bag) in the bottom, add bottled water, and a Betta fish ($3.94 at Wal - Mart), and put a little plastic tray on the top and plant a philodendron or some other plant in the top (no idea on this cost). Tie a pretty bow around the neck of the vase, and you are done!

My friend's mom has them all around the house - they are beautiful, especially if you match the color of the fish to the stones. Yes, the fish can breathe, and the roots of the plant trail down into the water to give the fish something to hide in.

I'm guessing total cost is about $9.00 plus the cost of the plant and bow. I think that it is a pretty inexpensive gift - and it looks like it costs much more!!

Let me know if you have made any of these...I am going to make them for my MIL, SIL, my mom, and my sister. If they go well, I may do one for the rest of my family too - won't i be funny trying to transport them, though??

My freind and I made some.

The first ones we made either the vase wasn't strong enough or we used to many stones and as soon as we picked them up...
The bottoms fell out!
We were scrambling around on the floor trying to save our fish.

They really are beautiful when they are done though.

Oh no!!! The poor fish

I will make a note of it - not too many stones.

I'm so glad you told me...I can't believe that happened to you both. I wonder if they are all like that or if it was a bad batch..hmm...

People say that you don't need to feed the fish because it will live off the roots of the plant. It is a lie. Your fish will die. feed them blood worms once a week.
