I would like some input on double strollers

I went looking for double strollers today.
We have one hand me down from my sister in law, but I don't like it too much. I use it almost daily with my "foster-child" ( I babysit a 6 months old during the week) and Jerome, and it is soooo hard to push. It is one of the ones where they sit behind each other.

I though I wanted one of those, preferably where they can sit facing each other, and definetely much easier than the one I have.
So I went to Baby's R Us and took a look around. I saw one I like, but it is one where they are sitting next to each other. I liked the fact that I can fully recline both seats, and both seats have a canopy. It also seemed to be easier to push and smaller to fold together. But I wonder how good I can get through doors with it.

SO, my question I guess is, there must be several people out there using double strollers, what kind do you have, what do you like/dislike about it, and what would you recommend?

Thanks for your help. Eva

We have the Graco side by side for the boys and I LOVE it for walks and they like being able to interact. But when I try and go to stores or the mall, doors and aisles are impossible. If I could do it over, I would have both side by side and tandem just so I could have one for walks and the tandem for errands. Now that Olivia is here, we had to buy the triple and that's a handful! Hope I helped!

Yes, you did. I think I will get the side by side one, because DH and I love to go to the park. Since I still have the one from my sister in law where they are behind each other, I have one for when I need to go to the store or so.
But what do others think?

I've been looking into double strollers a lot lately and here's what I CAN tell you. Avoid Cosco at all costs ... they have like a 70% failure rate ... specifically, the wheels tend to fall off and they refuse to fix them.

I've been told by several people, including the salespeople, that side by sides only work if the kids are about the same size. If one is much heavier than the other, they are impossible to steer. Also, most side by sides don't recline all the way like they need to for a newborn.

I looked at the ones with the stadium seating, and they are hard as heck to steer -- much like driving a school bus I think. I did find one that steered rather well, but wouldn't you know it ... it was made by Cosco, so that's out.

SO .... that leaves me with the stroller that has the jump seat on the back. I think that is what I'm going to end up getting. Of course, I don't think I looked to see if the seat reclined all the way for a newborn. Hmmm .... need to look into that too.

Eva I agree with your choice! We have a sid by side Graco that reclines all the way. I bought it for my SIL when she started watching ds his cousin is only 5 month older. The only problem was he kept trying to hug the little baby!! LOL there was only a size differenc for a short while though. I do run ALOT of errands all the time & I am looking into the tandom because the other girls are right it is almost impossable in the mall etc. But since you have one of those already you should be all set!

I looked at Babies R Us and liked the Graco double stroller. It's where the kids sit one in front of the other. The bigger baby is in front and the infant can be in the back part by me in their baby seat. I believe that the seat reclines all the way back for the infant carrier....and if you already have an infant seat.....(which I do) you can use your own instead of buy a new one with the stroller. Both have the canopy tops and it has a cup holder by the handle for Mom or Dad. I haven't steered one yet, I've just been 'browsing'.

Let me know what you find though. I'm definitely in the market for one!

I agree with Dawn! I had bought a double stroller when Devon was younger from Cosco, and it was the one where they can face each other I do believe. Well 2 WEEKS after I bought it the wheel just broke off, and they wouldnt fix it!! I payed over $120.00 for that thing, and I am still ticked off about it!! I didnt do anything to it eaither, I was just folding it up to put it in the car(which was a task) and SNAP the wheel broke off. I WILL NEVER buy ANY of their products ever again!!

We have a double stroller with one behind the other. I'm not sure what brand it is because I bought it at a consignment sale. I use it mainly for walks now because it is so big and bulky to get in and out of the car. I have no real problems with it for shopping, it's somewhat hard to make tight turns. We have found it easier to let David walk and use an umbrella stroller for Anna.

I have a Graco double stroller that was given to me by my SIL, so it is a little over five years old. It is where they sit one-behind the other and both seats recline back for newborns. It steers really well and the only thing I don't like about it is the canopy. It only covers the back so if a child is sitting in the front, they get no coverage. And it also isn't adjustable so if the sun is coming from the front, it's useless and the child gets blinded by the sun.

Other than that, I love it!! I use it all the time and I only have one child!!

Sheesh Lisa -- I have two single strollers. Wanna trade? LOL Just kidding!

I do think that the Graco brand seems to be the best from what I've looked at so far. As a matter of fact, the one that I'm seriously considering is made by them and overall, they get the best reviews.

I bought the side by side one a while ago and use it alot.
It is made by Baby Trend. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the wheels are squeking, but some lubricant took care of that.
The kids I use it with are 6.5 months apart, and it works well. I have no problems in the mall, but some grocery stores get tricky, mainly small one (wouldn't you have guessed that )
I don't remember who said it, but the seats don't recline all the way, but pretty much. Our Graco stroller for Jerome did not either, and I never thought about that as bothering me.
I will see how it goes with a newborn and a 19months old.
