The guessing game

How accurate are doctors/midwives at guessing the weight of a baby while still in the uterus? By palpitation or sonogram? When I had my sonogram done at 20 weeks, my baby was bigger than average so I think I may be having a big baby. My first was 7'2 at 37 weeks when she was born. I was thinking of asking my doctor in a few weeks for a guess but didn't know if I should even bother if they can be way off the mark.

Guessing Weight

Hi Beth,

I think at best they're guess is close. Many times the are off by a few ounzes or more. I think an acurate guess may happen but more unlikely. Even with all that equipment.

My best,
Lesly
