They always told me to start Tori on whole milk...now I just buy 2% because that's what the rest of us drink....she is 2 now so I think she is plenty old for it...

Started on whole milk at 1-yr-old, then switched to 2% when the dr. said we could. I think Jessi stayed on whole milk for several years, but the boys were switched around 18 months because they were so big.

I think that as long as your baby is not underweight, there's probably no reason you can't go with 2%.

Olivia is drinking whole milk now. Babies need the extra fat for brain development. When Olivia goes to her 2 yr. appointment the doctor is going to let us know if we should continue the whole milk. She is such a petite girl that she may be on whole milk longer. Most children go to 2% when they turn 2.

None. My dh and I are lactose intolerant and she's shown the same tendancies. I don't know what we'll do when she is older, but for now the only milk she gets is breastmilk. WIC and the health department told me whole milk until age 2, also.

Whole milk is what is recommended for infants.

Complete sideline here: When I was pg with my eldest (about 19 years ago now) I was full of all the good intentions that parents have, no lollies, no sugar, no fat, completely healthy diet yadda, yadda, yadda.

Then I read an article in a well known and respected journel. The title: Epidemic of Middle Class Children Suffering from Malnutrition. It turns out that lots of well intentioned, well educated parents were doing the 'right thing' and giving their babies a 'healthy' start in life. Unfortunatly what is healthy for an adult causes malnutrition in babies and infants.

As babies, yes keep them away from sugar and salt and additives etc but they are so active that they need more fat and energy than we do so as toddlers they need the sugar etc, if they get it from fruit etc all the better, but this is real life, cookies and lollies are not going to hurt children as part of a balanced diet.

My pediatrician recommends whole milk until the age of 2.

I agree with what Dawn said.
Especially if your baby(child) is underweight, then definately whole milk!
Alot of people are anxious to save a buck and will give their child 2% milk.
