Giving out candy to the whole town I think

We live in a townhome community where tons of people bring their kids to trick-or-treat...which I understand, because maybe they don't have a safe neighborhood with sidewalks or lighted streets or whatever, but it costs me an arm and a leg!! Last year I gave out 10 bags of candy!! At about $3 a bag, you can do the math!!

It is so popular in our neighborhood, that the police ride their bikes around to make sure everyone is OK! As a matter of fact, all my neighbors just sit on their porches with buckets of candy, because if you were answering the door, it would be every 5 seconds or so!

What I have decided to do this year is buy Smarties and give those out. I know, that sounds so cheap, but I don't like buying expensive candy for all these kids that I don't know! Plus, I love it when both parents are walking around with the kids, so you know that they didn't have to buy any candy to pass out, and their porch light at home is off.

For the kids that I know, I am going to make up treat bags, and I always buy little bags of Goldfish for the babies and toddlers who are cute, but you know can't have candy!

I'll let you know how much it costs me this year! i feel like our street should charge admission!!

LOL I know how you feel. And actually, this yr, we are the ones with both parents going out with the kids. We just couldn't afford to stay home and hand out all that candy, and George and I neither one want to miss out on Logan's first time saying trick or treat.

No you don't sound cheap at all. We live in the country and it is much easier and safer for us to go in town to trick or treat. My parents live in town and I grew up in that neighborhood so I still know most of the people. To me it is more fun for us to walk house to house then drive house to house also.

Julie,
You don't sound cheap at all!! It does get expensive and I would be doing the same thing if I had a bunch of kids coming to my house.

Of course, like Shona, both me and Billy will be going with Alexander. It is his first year and neither of us want to miss it but I'm pretty sure we will both be wanting to go with him every year.

Also, we do not plan on taking him to anyone's house that we don't know. I just wouldn't trust the candy (not to say that everyone giving out candy is doing something to it, but you never know about those crazy people!!). If we don't have that many houses to visit, we may go to the mall. Or home. He is only one, after all!!
