How long is a packaged roast good in a refridgerator? I bought one on Tuesday and haven't had a chance to use it. Can I cook it today or should I throw it out?
You mean last Tuesday? Chances are I would throw it out but if your refrigerator is kept really cold, if the roast has been at the back, it might still be okay. But to be on the safe side, I'd probably give it to the animals outside.
Oh no I just hate it when that happens! If DH wouldn't have reminded me Sunday about the roast in our fridge I wouldn't have remembered to cook it yesterday either. I am bad about that!
What is the 'use by' date on the package? Did you freeze it at any time?
This is from the USDA website..
Quote:
Use or freeze products with a "Sell-By" date within 3 to 5 days of purchase
If the manufacturer has determined a "Use-By" date, observe it. This is a quality assurance date after which peak quality begins to lessen but the product may still be used. It's always best to buy a product before its date expires. It's not important if a date expires after freezing beef because all foods stay safe while properly frozen.
Nope has never been frozen....Thanks Tara! I think Adam is going to look at/smell it....he said it has a sell by date of tomorrow. If there is something not normal about it tonight, I will throw it out. The other girl in my office said she thought it would be ok....
I won't use beef that has been in the fridge more then 5 days, sometimes less. No chicken or pork more than 2 days. But that's just me. And I always smell it first. If it has started to turn you will be able to tell.
