TTC and Breastfeeding

I have not really had a period since Elizabeth was born (little over 14 months ago). I have PM symptoms once a month like I use to have before getting pregnant, but have only had a little spotting once or twice since she was born.

Elizabeth still nurses at night (bedtime) and on weekends (nap and bedtime) so I'm assuming that's why I still haven't started having periods again. I know some have periods right away, some not until they've stopped nursing, and some take several months even after they've stopped nursing.

My question is, if things stay this way, how can I go about TTC? We wanted to start around August of this year but I'm not sure if I'm even ovulating each month or not.

I've thought about making an appiontment with my OB/GYN to talk this over with her and I've thought about buying an ovulation kit but don't have any experience with those - aren't they just one-time and you have to keep buying them?

I'm just hoping someone has some experience/advice they can pass along. Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I think you still ovulate. A friend of mine was breastfeeding fully and got pregnant with out having a period at all. I would check with you OBGYN, if you don't get a better answer here.

Thanks Lupe!

I should have known that I can still (and probably do) ovulate because I've heard of women getting pregnant while breastfeeding and not having periods (a friend of mine did, actually). I guess my question about ovulation should have been how do I know when I'm ovulating? Gotta use some common sense here!

I don't know, an ovulation kit might work but maybe a bit costly in the long run. I would ask your OB/GYN maybe they can help. I know my cycles returned to normal (Pre-pill days) after I stopped BFing Brianna in January. Good luck and I hope everything returns to normal.

The ovulation kits usually come several to a pack, like 5 I think.
