*Approximately 212,600 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and 40,200 will die from the disease.
*One person is diagnosed every 3 minutes and one person dies of breast cancer every 14 minutes.
*Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Hispanic and African-American women.
*White, non-Hispanic women are more likely to develop breast cancer, but African-American women are more likely to die from it.
What you can do
*Know your family history - A first degree family member with breast cancer approximately doubles your risk of breast cancer.
*Limit Alchohol intake to 2 or fewer drinks a day.
*Perform breast self-examinations
*Know the Symptoms - Nipple discharge & tenderness, Lumps in breasts, and visual changes to the breasts appearance are all indicators that you may have breast cancer.
*If you are over 40 have a Mammogram done yearly.
