Can you even PRETEND to like spiders??

Ugh! I can't!!
I feel bad about it... but I just can't.

I'm trying to teach Kyler that bugs are our friends. He goes through his moments that he's really interested in them... to freaking out if he see's an ant walking across the floor.

So... trying to be a good mom, I let the ants crawl on my hands. I pick up worms. Again -
I've even caught a few lady bugs.

However - I just can't bring myself to come CLOSE to a spider.

Tonight, we were watering plants and picking some weeds. I went to pick up a leaf and there was the biggest, ugliest, creepiest looking spider I've ever seen. I hate to admit it but I jumped - and freaked out - for about 3 minutes. I just couldn't get rid of the heebie jeebies!!!
Even now thinking about it... ugh! Ick!

Is your child "afraid" of bugs? What did you do to discourage this? Is it just normal?
I've notice that he's "afraid" of the bugs if he's barefoot. But, if he has his shoes on - he seems to be fine.

Yes - Lys is freeked of Bugs. She will screem and run away and hide. WE are getting better. I try to tell her the good thing about the bug (if I can think of one) and that seems to help. She has gotten much better now she looks at them and says shoo, go away.

Both of my kids are afraid of bugs. We just talk about the good things that they do...like spiders are good because they eat other bugs!! We have gotten some books from the library as well.

Oh no. No way. I can tolerate anything but not spiders. My girls are freaked out by them too. I did not want to pass that fear on to them but I cannot help but freak out when I see them.
Lisa----whyh in the HE!! does someone have a tarantula at the office????? What an idiot. I would NOT be able to work there. We saw a tarnatula at the Indy Zoo and I am still having flashbacks of the nasty little thing.

spiders I'm fine with, it's my son's and DH that have the problem , I'm forever getting spiders in glasses and putting a piece of paper under it and taking it outside to let it go.

Crabs on the other hand

The only time I like spiders is when I have my shoes on & can stomp them into oblivion. That is if they invade my turf!

We had some really big garden spiders in our tomato plants last year that freaked me out, but I kept reminding myself that they were good for the plants & just stayed away from them.

Ewwwwwww.. No I can't stand spiders or bugs! I can do ants, lady bugs, worms, and LITTLE frogs, but no creepy crawly things like caterpillers or spiders!

Austin is afraid of them too! So when he wants me to move one off of his swing set I just tell him to brush it off that it's okay it won't hurt you and that he's scared of you. LOL That way I don't have to touch the nasty thing! LMAO (horrible mom i know!! )

I hate bugs and so does Rach...when she has shoes on she'll stomp them any chance she gets! Issac doesn't really care about them right now.

Joey is terrified of spider webs. Spiders, he's mostly OK with, but spider webs scare the beejeezus out of him. Go figure, hm?

I am the kicking screaming running fool that if there is a spider by me I am freaking out. I can catch a mouse with my bare hands but spiders ugh ugh no way jose! I have taught brittany not to be afraid of bugs and she will pick up any bug. I am trying to do the same with Trey. I tell them look real real close at them and wonder what they are thinking.

Brittany knows the rule! If we have a visable spider in the room he is fine as long as he stays in his corner. If he would move from his spot SPLAT! That GDSOB is dead! Get the shoe you is in trouble.

Oh and I hate hate hate centipides too! ibbie jibbies.
