Parade wands (batons)

You will need:

1. red, white and blue ribbon (curly ribbon used for gift wrap works especially well for this!)

2.The cardboard roll from the bottom part of a cleaners' hanger (the part where you would rest a pair of slacks)

3.scotch tape

4.star stickers

Directions:
Decorate your cardboard roll with stickers. At the end of the roll, tape the different ribbons. Let your child twirl around the room with them or wave them when attending a parade.

((This is also a great idea for little girls who are into playing princess or fairy! You can use any kind of sticker and any color of ribbon. You can also paint or use marker on the roll to give it a little different flair!))

Sparkling Firework Art

This is a very good fine-motor activity!

Draw squiggly lines (in chalk or pencil) on a piece of paper and let the children follow the lines with a marker, crayon, or glitter glue. If you use glitter glue on black contruction paper, it looks REALLY sharp! We had lots of fun doing this when I was teaching Pre-K!

More Fireworks Art:

Use bingo markers or round water color dabbers and glitter on white paper to make fireworks.

Just dab the paper with red and blue markers and while still wet, sprinkle with glitter. Hang them in the window or from the ceiling, and as they turn from the air circulation, they sparkle like fireworks.

Make an Uncle Sam Hat

You will Need:

1 paper plate

Red, White, and Blue Contruction paper.

Have the child (if they’re younger you can do it) cut out the shape of a Uncle Sam hat (long rectangle) and let them glue on stars and stripes.

Cut the middle out of a paper plate. Glue or staple half of it to the back of the hat. Attack string to the sides of the remainder, and it will become a white beard.

The child will look like a Uncle Sam when he/she wears the hat and beard.

Yankee Doodle Noodle jewelry

Make "Yankee Doodle Noodle" necklaces or bracelets!

Dye elbow macaroni red and blue (leave some plain for "white") and have the children string them onto yarn.

Adults should do the coloring of the macaroni! The easiest way to dye noodles is to use a cup of hot water, a splash of vinegar, and drops food of coloring. Add more food coloring to make the color more intense—

Bubble Pictures

Mix dish detergent, water, and tempura paint in two bowls. Make one bowl red, and one blue. Have the children dip bubble blowing sticks in the bowls and they will blow the blue and red bubbles on a white sheet of paper. It looks neat to see all different creations. (You can also add food coloring to pre-mixed bubble solution purchased at the store and get the same effect!)

4th of July Firecrackers

You will need:

1 empty cardboard toilet paper tube
Red, White, and Blue crepe paper
Rice or beans (if desired)
Stickers (if desired)
Magic Markers, crayons, paint or other art supplies as desired.

Begin by painting a toilet paper tube red, white, or blue (or decorate with markers, etc). After paint has dried, glue red, white and blue crepe paper streamers to tube.

For variation, close off one end and fill with rice or beans; then close off to make a noise shaker. After ends are glued shut, then glue on streamers.

Children can stick on stars or other stickers.

They can sing and march to patriotic songs will using these noisemakers!

Red, White & Blue Puffy Paint Pictures

You will need:
Flour
Salt
Water
Red and blue food color
Empty mustard squeeze bottles
Cardboard

Activity
1. Mix equal parts of flour, salt, and water to make the puffy paint. (You can make as much or as little as you like)

2. Divide mixture into three different bowls and color one bowl of mixture blue, one bowl red, and leave the last one white.

3. Fill the mustard squeeze bottles with the mixture (one color per squeeze bottle).

4. Let the children squeeze the different colors onto the cardboard.

5. Allow the children's art work to dry. When it is dry, the design will be raised and will sparkle!

((This is also a great Spring/Summer activity that can be done with other colors!))
