when you have a miscarriage?? I hope I don't offend anyone, but I was curious. Does it feel like childbirth? really bad cramping? nothing? Do you always know you are miscarrying? Or can you not know and think it is just a heavy period?

Any input would be helpul, thanks!

When I had mine, I would never had known I was having it if I hadn't taken a pregnancy test...I would have thought it was a period.

Same here. Everything is a little more than what I'd have with a normal period - a little more cramping, a little more bleeding. But then, I was only about 4-5 weeks along each time.

I was 10 weeks along the first time I miscarried. It did hurt like childbirth. Maybe more actually. I spent the night in the emergancy room.

With each of my miscarriages if I hadn't taken a pregnancy test I would have thought I was just having a heavy period with extra cramping.

Nicole,

Do you think you had a miscarriage? If you do, you can have some bloodwork done to find out.

no, I had negative tests, but I was just wondering, because I've heard contrasting stories of what it feels like, and I wanted to know if you would actually know that you were pregnant.

I heard somewhere that the average woman will have like 2-3 or so miscarriages in her lifetime and never know it.

I think I've read that before myself. I was wondering the same thing could someone be PG and not even know it yet and miscarry?

Yes, you can be and not know it and miscarry. My first miscarriage was that way, and I was doing the whole basal body temp thing and everything. Took me completely by surprise when I started bleeding right about the time I should have been ovulating. The doctor ordered blood work, and that showed I was pregnant.

I had three known miscarriages and I suspect I had a few I didn't know about too.

I suspect that I had a miscarriage when I was with my ex....my cycle was all out of whack and I was having symptoms of being pg...then a couple of weeks later I had a really heavy period (way worse than normal)...the home pg test came back negative when I took it though....although part of me is sure i was pg

I think I had one too right before I got pregnant with my daughter. I had like a 7 day very heavy very painful period. The next time I had a period it was just a little spotting then 2 months after that I found out baby was on the way!

I always have a heavy period so I don't think I would know. Although I couldn't get pg before I had surgery so I doubt I've had one. I feel for everyone that has- you have amazing strength to carry on.

Mine didn't hurt at all. The doctor said to expect labour-like pains but I didn't have any of that. I was 12 weeks along so obviously I knew I was pregnant.... I just had a lot of painless bleeding and passed very large clots and tissue.

i've never had any proven misscarrages, but i can think of at least three times that sound like you all have discribed... specially the wonky cicles and the spotting and stuff..

well the miscarriage i had i had taken a test several as amatter of fact anyway i was twelve weeks along and it hurt to the point that i had to take a darvocet my sister on the other hand had a miscarriage and didnt know she was until she went to the ER and they ran some test i really think it depends on the person and the situation i guess

I think that I have had a couple. I had these HUGE blood clots come out and really bad cramps with excess bleeding.
for those that have miscarried, did you have big clots? I'm talking about the size of a small lemon or so....I always wondered if those were miscarriages or not. Good question Nicole!
Krista- I had huge clots, some were lemon sized and then I had some that were bigger. I started out at first passing lemon sized clots before passing bigger ones.

Hmm.. makes me think perhaps I've had a misscarriage just this february. I have highly unusual cycles due to endometreosis and sometimes my periods last a long time, but aren't very heavy. I had finally finished a light month and a half period in the middle of Janurary and about the first sunday of February I suddenly started again, very heavy with clots the size of my palm, or lemon as two of you have described. The whole thing lasted from Sunday morning until Tuesday, and then it was completely gone. It would amaze me if it was a misscarriage, my husband and I have not used any method of birth control in two years due to my current condition. If ya can't get it to work, why try to prevent it
