Was your child when you could actually make sense of what they said? Kate talks non stop, but neither of us have a clue what she is saying!

Hmmmm.... thats a good question. Alexis started talking really well early and I am thinking b/t 1 and 2 but the exact time b/t I don't remember. Of course their are days I wish she hadn't learned so many words so early... particulary when she said "that man has a big belly" in the middle of a cell phone store REALLY loud!!!

Austin was about 2 before we could really understand him.

He jabbered non-stop from the time he was about a year old though..

There are day I wish I hadn't spend 2 years trying to teach that kid how to talk.. LOL He is a BIG TIME TALKER!!!

Sometimes I STILL have no idea what she is saying.

From my experience, even for a child who has a decent vocabulary all ready, sometime between 20 - 24 months the speach really takes off. A lot of kids still aren't understandable to much more than their parents for a while though.

LIz was around 2....and sometime we still have a hard time....although she is a lot easier to understand than most 3 year olds we know....and everyone comments on it

Kids speech starts to develop around 18 months. It really takes off at 20 to 24 months. Now Trey is 28 months and talking in sentences...

Mykayla spoke clearly and unstandable at year old.
Kaydence babbles but has a vocabulary of about 10-12 words.

Well, I can understand some of what he says. Like dog, bite, cup, yummy, apple, drink, bath, book, cat, choo choo, truck, and simple words. But when he starts off with a long line of words, then he loses me! But I really think he talks in his own little language sometimes just so he can hear the sound of his own voice.

Alexander was only saying "dada" until he was 22 months. Then he just took off and began speaking clearly and in sentences almost immediatly. People are always commenting on his verbal skills and his pediatrician at his 3 year check up said that he was very advanced in that area.

Elizabeth is saying words already that we can understand but mostly it's just babble that only she can understand. Although her big brother seems to be able to understand everything she says.

My DD is 2 and 4 months and she was a slow talking she more or less didn't say more then 12 word till she turnd 2. So is now putting two words together like daddy come.. when she wants him to follow her. But besides that no sentances. I would say she's up to about 50 words. My neice on the other hand talked very good in half sentances at 1. And I can understand her pretty good. She was the 4th child so I think that helped. I guess each kids is different. Desi has her days were I notice she picks up new words fast other days she won't. I can't wait for the day when we can actually have a little conversation!!!

I could really understand everything Jen was saying around 15 months.
we could understand most of what she was trying to get across (we could understand the words, but they wouldn't all be there) when she was around 17 months

Sometimes I still don't understand Darien and he's 3!

I barely understand what Jonas is saying.

I guess it depends on who you are asking.
And, since I'm answering, I'll say it was around 14 months that I could understand Kyler. (More than just the one words.) (Obviously NO or MORE were pretty easy! )

However, I know that I was translating for DH for a while. (Which would be frustrating to me because I felt like he just wasn't paying attention and listening.)
But, then again, I wonder if it's just because I'm with Kyler so much I'm just better at hearing what he's saying.
(That make sense?)

I know for a fact that Kyler and Ryan were the only two in their toddler class that were talking for the longest time.
Even now, the other kids are really just starting.

I think Rach was closer to 2 when we were able to understand her better.
