Gifts for friends?

When do you buy gifts for friends or relitavites? My sil is pregnant and I was wondering when is a good time to buy her something?

What i have always done is wait forThe shower(if it is a close friend or family member) and go call out buying gifts, or if not wait for the baby to be born and take a gift to the hospital. JMO

I like to wait until htey see if they find out the sex of the baby...then you can personlize it more

It depends, if they are close to me, then I go out and buy something right away, if not I wait til either I am invited to a shower or they have the baby.
