Alternative Thanksgiving Plans

I was just wondering what you all did for Thanksgiving.

We always got together in my famly and had lunch. Last year, we went to DH's grandparents in Delaware and spent the weekend with them, and we had a nice Thanksgiving dinner.

This year, because of time, money, and the fact that I can't travel, we will be styaing home. It will be the first Thanksgiving that we've both had to be away from our families.

Any suggestions. Me baking a turkey is pretty much out!!!

I would suggest that you make lots of snack foods (cookies, chex mix) and watch movies (there are alot on the tv on Thanksgiving or you can rent a few)

Ohh that sounds fun!!! We are by both of our families & we always see both on the same day but we watch half the foorball game at each house ...My mom & dad have snack foods & pizza because my mom says she is almost 75 years old & had enough turkey!! DH's mom cooks the whole 9 yards .. so we feast like big pigs!!

I am used to having turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, the works. Last year, we went to my inlaws, and they had turkey, ham, stuffing, etc. Of course, I didn't realize that stuffing and dressing were two different things. We always had cornbread dressing, so stuffing made with light bread and croutons was a little different for me.

I could probably get by with baking a ham or something. WE just don't have room in the oven (or fridge) for a turkey and all the fixings. But I like the snack mix idea and all that. It would be nice to have a day to just kind of kick back and do nothing.

Dina,

WHat about going out to dinner? They have many nice dinners that are put on around here from 12 noon until 8pm. Then there is no clean up!!! You can come home to a clean house & watch good movies!!!

Come to think of it I may make reservations & take my mom & dad out for brunch!

Or if want to have some sort of nice dinner at home, how about cooking a turkey breast?? You can get a small one for a nice meal and maybe have leftovers for another meal. Then just cook a few things to go with it like stove top stuffing and baked sweet potatoes. That way you have a homecooked meal, but don't have to go all out.

Whatever you do, enjoy the day!!

I agree with Krista - there are lots of restaurants that have lovely bruches and dinners on Thanksgiving. Plus, since pretty soon it won't be as easy to enjoy a nice leisurely restaurant meal anymore, I suggest you go for it!!!!!!!
