The latest recalls include infant rattles, magnets, cribs, hooded clothing, stuffed toys, wooden toys, and toy pots and pans.

1. Kids II Inc has issued a recall of their Bright Starts Ring Rattles, citing the potential for the antenna to detach, posing a choking hazard. There have been two reports of antenna’s becoming detached, including one incident of the antenna ending up in a child’s mouth, but no injuries resulted from either of the incidents.

The soft rattle is shaped like a bee. The model number for the rattle is 8534, and is printed on a sewn-in label on the bee’s head. They were sold at toy stores and other retail stores from January 2008 through June 2008 for around $2-3. Customers are asked to take these rattles away from children immediately and contact Kids II to receive a free replacement. 2. Dowling Magnets is issuing a recall of their Classic Horseshoe Magnet, citing excessive amounts of lead in the plastic coating. No incidents have been reported, but the levels exceed federal regulations on lead content in paint.

The horseshoe magnets sold in specialty retail shops and educational suppliers from March 2003 through April 2008 for around $10. Consumers are asked to take the magnets away from children immediately and contact Dowling Magnets to receive a free replacement. 3. Pacific Science Supplies is issuing a recall of their U-shaped Magnets, Bar Magnets, Magnet Sets, and Magnet Needle Sets due to excess lead in the paint. No incidents have been reported, but the high levels of lead exceed federal regulations.

These magnets were sold to educational institutions nationwide from April 2000 through February 2008 for about $9.

4. Mother Hubbard’s Cupboards is issuing a recall of its Cribs, citing that they fail to meet federal safety standards. The distance between the mattress support bracket in the lowest position and the top of the side rail in the highest position is less than the required 26 inches, posing a fall hazard to children who climb over the railing. So far there have been no reported injuries.

The models included in the recall are: “Enchantment” (#210), “Hush a Bye” (#215), “Once Upon a Time” (#320), and “Rock a Bye” (#1900-350), with date codes 0306 through 0308. These numbers should be printed on a label on the bottom inside of the right side of the crib. They were sold at children’s stores from March 2006 through March 2008 for between $500 and $650.

Customers are asked to stop using the cribs and contact Mother Hubbard’s Cupboards to receive instructions on how to re-install the support brackets. 5. Baby Appleseed is issuing a recall of Davenport Cribs, citing that they fail to meet federal safety standards. Though there have not been any reported injuries, the secondary mattress support, used for the lowest position, does not meet the full 26 inch minimum height in its lowest position, allowing children inside to crawl over the railing, posing a fall hazard.

The models included in the recall start with the numbers 273-xxxx-xxxx and were manufactured before or during August 2007. This information should be printed on a label located on the right side of the lower inner panel of the crib. They were sold at specialty children’s stores nationwide from December 2006 through September 2007 for between $600 and $800.

6. Kids with Character LLC is issuing a recall of BongoCheetah Girls Jackets, citing that the drawstring through the hood can pose a strangulation hazard to children. No injuries of this particular brand have been reported, but the CPSC has issued guidelines for drawstrings on children’s clothing which state that such drawstrings have resulted in deaths and injuries in young children.

The jackets being recalled include girls jackets with style number 8N6003 and RN 119132, printed on the care label. These jackets were sold nationwide at Marshalls stores from November 2007 through August 2008 for about $25. Customers are asked to immediately remove the drawstring from the jacket or return the jacket to Marshalls or Kids with Character for a full refund. 7. Request Jeans is issuing a recall of their Drawstring Hoodies, citing a strangulation hazard. Just as with the jackets mentioned above, the drawstrings may pose a strangulation hazard, though there have been no reported incidents for this particular product.

The item numbers involved in the recall include 11188SG (short sleeve) and 11218LG (long sleeve). They were sold at Mass merchandisers and other retailers from January 2007 through March 2007 for about $36. Consumers are asked to immediately remove the drawstrings or to return the garment either to the place of purchase or to Request Jeans to receive a refund. 8. Raw Blue Sportswear is issuing a recall of their Hooded Sweatshirts, citing the potential for the drawstrings to pose a strangulation hazard. These sweatshirts were sold in three styles: 7FT5655, 7FT5455, and 7FT5515.

They were sold at TJ Maxx, Mega Trends, Moonstone Shirts, and MP Trading stores nationwide from July 2007 through December 2007 for between $30 and $40.

Consumers are asked to immediately remove the drawstring or to return the sweatshirt(s) to the place of purchase or to Raw Blue Sportswear for a full refund. Raw Blue Sportswear can be reached at (800) 638-1537 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (Eastern) Monday through Friday.

9. Daiso LLC is issuing a recall of Stuffed Toy Dogs, citing that they contain small parts which may pose a choking hazard. There have not been any incidents reported so far. The UPC codes on the toys include 4947678264166 and 4947678246063.

The stuffed dogs were sold at Daiso retail stores in California and Washington State from October 2007 through December 2007 for about $3. Customers are asked to stop using the toys and return them to any Daiso retail store for a full refund. 10. Earthentree is issuing a recall of its Wooden Toys, citing that the toys contain small parts which can pose a choking hazard. The toys also violate the federal rattle standard, and some of them have a string longer than 12 inches, which can pose a strangulation hazard to young children.

The recall includes several different types of wooden toys, including egg shakers (maracas), pull toys, rattles, and trains. They are painted in glossy red, green, orange, brown, yellow, and/or natural wood. The toys were sold at Earthentree’s website, fairs, trade shows, and retail stores nationwide from December 2007 through May 2008 for $7 to $34.

11. Fisher-Price is issuing a recall of its Learning Pots & Pans Toys, citing that missing screws in the blue toy pan can cause the clear plastic covers to detach and release the small balls. There have not been any injuries reported so far.

The model number included in the recall is G6685, which can be located on the bottom of the blue pan. These sets were sold at department and toy stores nationwide from October 2007 through August 2008 for about $20. Customers are asked to take these toys away from children and examine the bottom of the blue pan. If it contains all six screws, no recall is needed. If any are missing, however, the consumer is asked to contact Fisher-Price to arrange for returning the item for a replacement.
