to a High end store that you NEVER shop at. A real good sized card - Like $2000.

Would you go there and shop or would you try and sell the gift card and use the $$ elsewhere?

I would look around and see if they had something I wanted. If not, EBay the card...

I'd get rid of it and use the money elsewhere! That money could stretch so much further somewhere else.

I'd probably go look, but if I didn't see anything I wanted REALLY bad, I'd sell the card.

I looked - there wasn't anything I HAD to HAVE. I feel guilty spending lots of $$ on something I can get similar for 1/3 or 1/4 the price somewhere else.

My plan is to ebay it - I was just curious as to what ya all would do.

Macy's, I'd probably use it. I was thinking William's Sonoma or something like that. Selling it on Ebay never crossed my mind. I never knew you could do that. Do people pay face value for cards? Why would they?

I wandered through Macy's and just thought wooly crap it's expensive (Hence the reason I never shop there)

A $500 card goes for about $425 - so not face value (things like Starbucks though go for nearly face value)

But the card cost us nothing. Kev got it for free in Vegas. I have my choice to use it or sell it and the money (should I choose to sell it) is my *paycheck* for January & February since I will not get paid from DQ in those months. I would much rather have the cash than a gift card for over priced things (no offence to anyone who shops there - I just feel bad if I spent $200 on a pair of Jeans or $50 for a shirt)

I'd probably cruise the clearance racks and try to find things to give as gifts, or to re-sell on eBay. Failing that, though - definitely eBay or Craigslist.

I wandered around and there was nothing that I could justify spending the $$ on. I wandered through my size clothes, I wandered through the girls sized clothes (I was going to get Alyssa a new winter jacket but I couldn't find any in her size) I found a dress that I liked for Alyssa girls but the smallest they had was a 7 (Which possibly would have fit but I didn't have her body to try it on) I wandered through the crystals, the home stuff, (not perfume - makes me want to ) the jewerly etc. Nothign jumped at me and said SPEND ME.

I went with the intention of spending it - I just couldn't justify it to myself. I came home and even talked to Kev about it - thought maybe I was just being silly and I SHOULD Just splurge. and well.... It's Kev - He's ultimtely leaving it up to me but I just can't seem to find something to spend it on.

nope - not really. My brother has been great about updating my pots adn pans for my Christmas gifts teh last few years. Nothing is really in need of replacement.

I mean I COULD spend it - but there isn't anything I NEED. and I could spend the $$ more wisely. I'm just not sure what to do.

we just bought new furniture this summer. The girls get LOTS of use out of MOST of their clothes. The only things they need clothes wise is Lys & P need pants but not at $30 a pair. I just got Lyssa pants at Target of $15 that are perfect for her skinny little butt.

If the card was for Nieman Marcus (what I consider high-end), I would go there and splurge and probably find myself and the kids something.

Also, Macy's does have great sales and excellent clearance items. Like I said, it's one of my favorite stores, and like Liz said, I would have no problem spending $2K there, and definitely would use the $500 gift card there.

I looked online and in store. I could spend it - but to be the $70 shoes and $200 jeans and $50 + shirts seems like a waste of money. I still have it (haven't done anythign with it yet.) I just think I could put $2000 (or there abouts) to better use elsewhere.

I probably try to justify it cause I don't ever spend more than like $15 on a pair of pants or a shirt adn Kev told me to make sure I spend it on something useful.

My Macy's is remodeling and a bunch of areas are shut off - maybe I'll save it (It never expires) and go back once they are done remodeling.

I'm a lot like you... It doesn't matter if I really like something and have the money, if I KNOW that I can get a better deal than I just can't make myself complete the purchase. I like to see how far money can stretch whether there is a need for it at the time or not.
Oh and I personally have never shopped Macy's.

I shop at Macy's often, and never do I ever spend $70 on jeans. I can usually find jeans for $40 or on sale for less. I bought some Liz Claiborne jeans on clearance at Macy's in February for $29. I also got a $100 Liz sweater then for $36. I don't think those are bad deals for good clothes. I buy a lot of Emily's and Travis's clothes there, too. Our Macy's always has great sales, too. I bought all my summer clothes there and the most I paid for any one item was $30 or so. The clothes I buy there are good quality and last forever. I was given a sweater from Macy's for Christmas in 1989 (it was just a plain crew neck cable knit sweater), and I had it until 2000 when I decided to retire it. It had not faded and was in great shape, it was just that I felt like 11 years was long enough! It was Charter Club brand.

If you went to Macy's and you did not see anything that you would like or could use then there isn't much sense in keeping the card. If you sold it on Ebay and only got $400. for the card then you would still have 400 bucks that you did not have before that you could use for other things: extra paycheck, Christmas shopping, extra credit card payments, ect. I personally don't care for recieving gift cards to places that I don't shop at though I love Macy's store I have recieved gift cards to stores that I would never shop at so I can understand your situation. Good luck!

If the card doesn't expire then you can save it until they have their reopening specials, or that Black Shoppinng Day thing you ladies talk about all the time That way you get excellent quality and great value. Mind you I'm not the one to be talking to, I'm hopeless at shopping for myself.

It's not about NEEDS, it's about splurging and not caring. So what if you spend $150 on a pair of jeans--you said the giftcard was FREE, so the items you are buying are FREE You said yourself that you couldn't justify it when you were at the store. Just DON'T justify it! Just SPEND it

I would:

Buy 2 prs of designer jeans
3 or 4 nice tops
2 prs of shoes/boots
new purse
makeup

whatever was left I would look at pots/pans, bedding, jewelry, home decor, shoes for the kids, maybe something for John.........maybe

Use this as YOUR money and have fun with it! If not, I'll PM you my address and I'll spend it for you

RIGHT ON SISTER!!! Come to Rockford.... I'll help ya spend it....
