As the price of energy rises, so does the importance of energy efficiency. Making your house energy efficient needn't cost a lot, and it can save you quite a bit of money in the long run. An energy-efficient home can make you and your family more comfortable as well.

Try these easy energy savers to make your home more efficient:

* Replace your old thermostat with a programmable digital one.
* Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights.
* Replace the old seal on your refrigerator door.
* Have your heater/air-conditioner tuned up.
* Install a ceiling fan.

Many utility companies offer free energy audits in which a representative visits your home to show you where your home wastes energy and changes you can make so you'll use less.

Making your home energy efficient will also benefit you when you sell your home. If you can show that in the long run your home is less expensive to maintain than a similar house on the market-and if you present that information properly to a prospective buyer--your home can fetch a higher price.
