Well, it seems that I've not been very good about updating my journal lately! I'm just about out of the 1st trimester, which should be a relief, but now there are new problems.
I guess I should back up. At 10 weeks, I had my first technical prenatal visit and sonogram. They discovered that I was further along than originally suspected, so they changed my due date from 1/2 to 12/26. We saw the heartbeat which gave me an extra boost of confidence.
I also mentioned that I had been exposed to Fifth Disease during my first 6 weeks of pregnancy, so they decided to do an additional blood test to determine if I had contracted the disease. From what I have gathered, Fifth Disease itself is a relatively harmless virus, but it can be fatal to the fetus if contracted by a woman during pregnancy.
I received a phone call today from the OB/GYN telling me that I have in fact tested postive for the disease. I will go in Thursday for a follow up test, which will determine what course of action we take. Hopefully they will find that it was only antibodies to the disease that were detected in my blood. Looks like we'll have to wait and see.
This comes on the heels of a close friend of mine receiving her Triple Screen results back last week which indicated that her baby is carrying Trisomy 18 (which is bad news). She's still waiting for definite results on her follow up, so it's just been a rough few weeks.
I just hope that both tests were wrong and our babies are perfectly health. Fingers crossed!
