Skip Counting Race
by Catie Gosselin of WomanLinks.com
materials : one sheet construction paper, ruler, markers, roll-playing game die with more than 6 sides, dried beans
preparation : Draw a ten by ten square grid centered on the construction paper. Number each square from one to one hundred using marker. It may be helpful to use a single color for each column.
to play : Roll the die. The number rolled indicates the counting pattern to follow on the grid. Use a dried bean to mark each number in the sequence, up to, but not to exceed, one hundred. For example, if a ten is rolled, beans should be placed on 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. Depending upon ability, players can count out squares, add or multiply to determine the placement of markers. Once all the markers are in place, the player must say the counting pattern aloud before play moves onto the next person.
