OMG! This morning Marco calls me and asks me how much we paid for our flight to BC. For Sydney and I, alone, cost us almost $900. (Marco's flying stand-by, with Livia, for $80 each way)
I asked him why he wanted to know....

He said that since we're buying this mini-van, maybe we should just drive to BC. That's 24 hours! He said that we have to drive my Grandma's old, 2-door car when we get there, we have to haul around those great big carseats, we want to drive down to Seattle, go to the Island, go skiing etc. and we don't know how reliable her car is going to be. Plus, she has to take out 3rd part insurance if we're going to drive her car.
He said maybe we should just save ourselves the hassle and take our own vehicle. At first, I told him that he's nucking futs!

But now....the more I think about it, the better the idea gets. We could pack as much crap as we want, suitcases, skiis etc. we could pack as many toys as we want/need, we wouldn't have to worry about room, we wouldn't have to haul the carseats on and off the plane, on and off the ferry, blah, blah, we can stop for potty breaks at our leisure, if our kids are bad, we're the only one's that would have to listen to it, we could travel at night while the girl's are sleeping, in the daytime, we have the DVD player, I could just slid into the back with Livia if she needs to eat, we would have room for all 4 of us, plus an additional 2 people.....

But it's a 24 hour drive!

What do you think?

Okay, I just didn't some looking on WestJet.com and it doesn't look like we'll be driving. All monies paid to Westjet, are non-refundable. They will credit you and give you a WestJet credit account, that expires one year from cancellation.

So there we have it!

I was wondering if you could get your money back. Most airline tickets are non-refundable.

Okay, now we're driving! Marco came home and I told him about the tickets being non-refundable. He told me to call them and ask if the credit file was transferrable, because his boss wants to buy the "WestJet credit" from us. And yes, it is totally transferrable! So his boss is going to pay us our $779 (after the $50 cancellation fee) and then we'll drive our new van!

We'll do most of our driving through the night. If we leave here at 6pm, we can be at Michele's by 6am! Just kidding hun! It's a 12 hour drive to Calgary and the girl's will sleep through most of it. We're also going to be leaving a couple days earlier and coming home at the same time as if we were flying.

Hey, if worse comes to worse, live and learn, right?

Me either Liz! Speaking of which, we need to make some plans. I don't want to come to Seattle and have you slaving away at work!
We need to do some shopping....I mean sightseeing!

We drive with the kids all the time and don't usually have too bad a time. Of course Drew is older, but he has always been a great traveler. With Ally we just have to stop every few hours and let her run off steam. Instead of eating out all the time, we pack for lunchtime and and a rest stop. We spend and hour or so there and by the time we leave she's pretty tired and sleeps for a good 2 or more hours in the car! The only meal we buy is breakfast (for a sit down meal).

I'm sure it will be fine. I'll bet Sydney does better than you expect. And the DVD player will surely help. I need to get one of those for our next road trip!

Personally, I would not want to drive that far with two children under 3.
