HI hope you can help with some suggestions.
TK and Rick have been attending speech/language recovery classes for a year now, but I have not noticed any marked improvement.
They started talking at about 7 mnths, typical ma ma, ba ba, da da stuff, however by about 8 mnths they started 'twin talking'. Now I have no problem with them having their own language, but they wouldn't speak english.
After working with speech therapists from the age of approx 2 they were speaking so we could understand them at about 3.25 and so other ppl could understand them from about 4 on.
All fixed by the time they started school. But they cannot spell, they do not seem to have any idea of what a letter should sound like, and we do practice with them and have done so since they started school.
It is very hard for them to read, and writing is next to impossible, if you cannot spell you cannot reread the work back, We are not talking 'creative but logical' spelling here but total I guessed every single letter and threw in a few more for good luck in just about every word.
Sorry to rave on so much. Want I really want to know is can the parts of speech - we were told they both lack phenemic awareness - they missed ever be 'caught up', or should we start looking for ways to teach them to cope with the problem.
We are getting very frustrated and as the boys get older so are they.
