My 10 month old daughter is on Augmentin for a persistent ear infection. The problem is that it gives her a terrible upset tummy, and no matter how quickly I change her, she has a terrible case of diaper rash.

The doctor gave us a prescription for Mystatin, but it doesn't seem to be working. In between doses of that, I put on a thick layer of Desitin.

The poor thing still cries and screams everytime I go to change her and it looks like it must hurt. She doesn't seem to want to sit down, and I can see why.

Is there anything else I can try -- perhaps a natural rememdy?

Hi Kim,

Is that Mystatin for a confirmed yeast infection or are they just seeing if it helps? When Alyssa had a really bad diaper rash it almost always turned into a yeast infection and the Mystatin didn't work. There is another prescription out there that is supposed to work better. My daughter would almost always have to be switched to this medicine. I am going to try to find out what the name is but I don't know any natural remedies for diaper rash.
Just so you know Yogurt with live active cultures will help the diarrhea? go away from antiobiotics. My first daughter loved the Yoplait Vanilla and it almost always worked the first day. Just make sure it has the live active cultures.
I hope this helps and I will try to find the name of the other prescription.

I'll try the yogurt -- thanks for the advice! It wasn't a confirmed yeast infection -- but I'm assuming it probably is by now. If you run across the name of that stuff, I'd appreciate it!

Hi Kim,

The name of the medicine that helps my daughter is the Clotrimazole Cream, USP 1%. This normally clears it up pretty quick. Hope this helps. How did the yogurt work?

Thanks for the info! The rash seems to be clearing up a little -- I'm not sure if the yogurt did the trick or her tummy finally started to get used to the medication. Her diarhea has slacked off, so maybe it's a combination of the two.

I just always feel so bad when she's miserable -- like I should be doing something to make her feel better.

Thanks for the advice!
