Do you expect the child/ren to pay the insurance or will you help with it or pay for it all?

I think they should pay for it. By then they will be old enough to have a job and if they want to drive in our vehicles they can pay their share.

If my child had a job, then yes I would expect her to help with the payment. If she was focusing on school and sports, etc. I would not expect this and would rather her focus on her education than to work just to be able to drive.

Nope ... we will pay the insurance. Too many kids go out and get a job and drop out of school to make more money. Education comes first!

I am not sure what my DH views are on this. I am thinking he will want her to keep her grades up. I know she could get a job at 14 and he will not let her do that. He says she has all her life to work, let her be a kid and enjoy school.

I had to have a job to have my own car and pay for insurance. It will all depend on how involved n things and such she is and how well we are off financially. If she doesn't do anyhting extra then she will need to get a job to pay.

My brother and I both had PT jobs at McDonalds when we were 14. When we were 16 we worked for my moms cleaning business for 3 hours a night and made good money. Her premium went up just a bit for her insurance and my brother and I split the increase that her prem went up. It made us a bit more responsible when we were driving the car because we paid for our insurance, and our own gas. I never really thought about dropping out of school to work for McDonalds or my mom forever

I don't really know how I will feel in 8 years but right now I think that we would cover her on our insurance and pay for it for awhile. Once she was older, got a job, and a car of her own (I don't want her having one for her sole use for a few years) than I think she should pay for it herself.
IF she is working at 17 it wouldn't be enough hours to do more than buy her own clothes and go out on the weekend.

I'd love to be the ideal mother but I'm too busy raising my kids.

When the time comes, Brandon and Justin will both be contributing if not paying for it on their own. I think they should be responsible for it and if they are going to have a car, then they will have a job to be paying on it.
