Has anyone ever had this problem?? When I was PG before my US my Dh and I had both agreed we like the name Benjamin for a boy. My DH's cousin's girlfriend was due a month after me, and we talked a lot. Well one day I think I emailed her the names we like. Benjamin was the name of curse, I don't even think we had a girl name picked out. Well I have my US, it's a girl a month later she has her's it's a Boy. All the way up until her deliver she tells me she's naming it after her dad, I can't remember what the name was anymore. Well 4 weeks after my DD is born I get a call she had her little boy and they are naming it Benjamin and she's asking us how to spell it!!! I was mad... But I guess it was my fault for telling her. I never told her I was upset because I arleady knew she would pull the I don't remember you telling me line.... Anyone else ever have this happen?

I wanted Rebecca for Brittany and SIL loved that name. DH decided at the last minute that he wanted Brittany. SIL still pissed that she didn't use that name.

Sorta. A friend of mine had a friend who was pregnant at the same time I was with Elizabeth and I know this person and see her every now and again. While we were pregnant, we would talk about our pregnancies when we saw each other and I told her we had decided on Elizabeth for a girl and she said they were still talking about name.

Three weeks before Elizabeth was born, my friend called to tell me her friend had had her baby and named her Elizabeth. It made me mad simply because she hadn't told me that any of the times we had talked. It's not like our daughters will see each other that often or even go to the same schools (doubtful that they will) and we're not friends so it's not like a friend was stealing my name. I just thought since I told her we were using Elizabeth that she could have told me they were too.

One of the ladies I worked with got pregnant when I was about 6 months along, and when I came back from maternity leave, she took me aside and asked if it would be OK for her and her husband to name their son Joey. Yes, you read correctly - she asked permission. I was flattered, and of course, I told her to go ahead.

Now, since we don't work together anymore, we only see each other twice a year - for the boys' birthdays (they're almost exactly 6 months apart). We refer to them as Joey S. and Joey R.

I don't really think a name can be "stolen". They're not property. However, I think some people have no imagination at all and don't think twice about using a name someone else they know has used. When I was pregnant, I never discussed what names I wanted to use, especially around other pregnant woman.

DH's cousin named her daughter Alexandria. I still don't understand why she did that considering there was already a child in the family with that name. I did get ticked when someone told me that DH and I had stole her name. How could I have stolen the name when I'd decided to use that name before I ever met her (his cousin)? My DD is six or seven years older than her daughter, so I told my DD to refer to herself as Alexandria the first. I still get confused sometimes when someone in the family talks about his cousin's daughter because I think they're talking about my DD.
