Our housewarming party Saturday got off to a slow start. We had to take our beloved Eddie (Edwina) to the vet and have her put to sleep.

She had been doing badly for quite a few days. Wasn't eating, could hardly walk and had started collecting fluid in her stomach. Friday night she was yowling and crying all night, which was not like her at all. We knew she was starting to die.

Saturday morning, we got up and she could barely move. Bill had been up and down all night with her. So we put her called a local vet who agreed to see her. We got her there about 11AM and they took her right in. Because of why we were there, they took us right in, in front of their other customers. The assistant took her back to put the IV in and then brought her back to us. Usually she hisses and spits at the vets, but she never made a sound. The vet was wonderful. He stayed with us and talked before he gave her the shot and stayed until he was sure we would be OK.

I think I took it harder than anyone else. Eddie had belonged to my exDH and Bill took her when we moved to England. She was still with him when I came back. She was 17 1/2 years old.

Eddie was loved by us and feared by many! She hated strangers and would growl at them like a dog. Sent a grown man to the hospital for stitches once. Our friends knew to avoid her when they came over. But once she decided you were OK, you couldn't meet a more loving animal.

To the family she loved, she was a wonderful, caring animal. Drew used to pull her across the floor by her tail shen he was little. And she wouldn't let anyone but us near Ally when she was born. We had to lock her in the bedroom when people came to see Ally because she was very protective.

We love you!

It sounds like she had a long and wonderful life. I know it is so hard to lose a beloved pet.

Oh Brenda I'm so sorry to hear about Eddie!
I hope you'll feel better soon.
I can't imagine going through that -- my kitty, Baby, is 16 1/2 years old....
I'm thinking of you!

Thanks, Krista. Guess I wasn't thinking.

It's strange. Saturday I was so busy with the housewarming party that I didn't think much about her. Then Sunday I was busy cleaning up and taking care of the kids and Drew's friends who had spent the night. Monday Rick stayed home and we were busy doing things around the house. But last night when I went up to Bill's room to do something it hit me - she's not here anymore.

Eddie has been such a constant in my life for so many years that it is hard to imagine life without her. Today it was hard. I saw all the responses to my post and I just couldn't bring myself to come to BabyU and answer them. Silly of me, I guess. But I have been thinking of her all day long.

It's not silly at all. Eddie was a member of the family. I'm sorry that he's gone. You should post a picture of him, might make you feel better.

Thanks, Krista! I will have to dig up a pic and get someone to scan it for me. She was quite a cat!
