I would really like to spruce up our yard. It's still a little cool for this right now, but I'm trying to start planning ahead of time. Every year we plant flowers. But this is the first year we've actually had a yard to put them in. We always just put them in pots by the front door and on the back porch. MIL always had flowers in the front flowerbed, but she never did a lot with it (Just stuck something out there to have something there). I'd like to make it look nice and put out something that would cover more area, but I'd also like to make my money go as far as I can.

What are some good flowers/plants that don't cost a lot that you've had good luck with? Do you use anything other than plants (lawn ornaments, etc.) to spruce things up?

I've had great luck with petunias and pansies. Ornamental Grasses are easy to grow, not too expensive and can really dress up a flower garden. We have found really cute and inexpensive lawn ornments we use in or gardens at Home Depot, Target and Wal-Mart.

Good topic Dina!!

This will be summer #3 we've been here and I've NEVER planted flowers. My mom and I were supposed to plant this past summer.. but well.. ya know.

In front of my house I have a flower bed that just looks hideous.

Hmm.. Maybe we should post pictures of what they look like now so maybe some of the better gardeners can see what there is to work with..
