The pool we were given is a hard plastic/molded thing. It has a drain at the bottom on one side where you could le tthe water out. But the drain plug is missing. Is this something I could just pick up at Wal-Mart or Lowes or somewhere?

Look around in the kiddie pool secion of WM/Meijers..

if not... I wonder if like a bath tub stopper would work???

good luck on your search, i would buy anything that looks the right size and try a few fits!

I expect if you check Walmart (or equivalent) you'd be able to find them in the pool section.
