I love hydrangeas. I absolutely love them. But I've never had one. My mom had terrible trouble getting hers to do well. I'd like to plant some this year. Anyone have any tips on what to do so they'll grow and bloom well?

I heard that they like alot of care and watering. Therefore I won't be getting any, as pretty as they are. I don't have the greenest thumb so I'm gettng plants you can neglect and they love you anyway.

My grandmother used to have them when she had her own house, they were beautiful. She said they do take a lot of care though.. hence I won't get any either. I kill cactuses!

We have a hydrangea tree.
It grows great and we do nothing with it.
We even transplanted it a few years ago... and it's doing wonderful. (I have to say though - DH has a green thumb. He's incredible with plants, trees and flowers.)

At our other two houses, we tried to grow them, but they didn't like the soil or where they were planted, and they did not do well. At this house, we have one, and it's fine. I think they are picky about soil and how much watering and sun they get. DH is the gardener around here!

My grandmother has one so I got some trimmings off of hers. It dies down during the winter, but both of mine are coming back now.

My SIL next door had one last year...it had about 4 or 5 stems coming up then a storm came thru and blew it over...it started dying. She planted it, but I don't know if it is coming back this year.
