Do you buy the premixed nectar packets and add water or do you mix up your own sugar water? If you mix your own, what do you use?

I don't have any personal experience with this (yet ) but I found some things on the net:


1 to 4.
1/4 cup sugar to 1 cup of water.

Yup, 1 to 4. Some "experts" say you can go as low as 1 to 7. Dont exceed 1 to 4 as you run the risk of damaging their little livers and a stronger mixture does not bring an increased number of birds as some claim

I make my own! I boil the water. Mix one part sugar to four parts water and let it cool and there you go you have some hummingbird food. You do not need to add food coloring or anything. My birds are loving it!
