While we were at the video store Friday night, there was a couple in front of us with two boys about 4 and 9. The 9 year old asked if he could get the movie Ice Age (which we rented btw). When his Dad said no, he asked if he could steal it! Instead of being outraged or embarassed (like I would have been if my kid ever said that to me), the guy just said no like shut up. These were not poor people. They could definately afford to buy the video if they wanted it. Of course, who knows? Obviously, things are a lot different in their home than mine. My dh and I were just kind of shocked by the whole deal.

Our thought was Dad had probably already "acquired" a copy of the movie. He didn't seem to have much of an emotional reaction at all. I would die of embarassment if my child asked me if she could steal.

Sounds more like he was trying to get Dad's attention. Still, I would have had something to say about that if Drw had said it!

Wow, I would have died of embarrasment. It is bad enough when they grab things that end up in the stroller and we don't know about it until loading them up in the car, but to actually straight out ask that? That is the epitomy of what is wrong with our children and families out there today!!! I sincerely hope it was a joke!
