Grace They were not poor. They sent all their kids except apparently my great grandma all the way through college to PhDs. I don't know why my great grandma got left out on that one.

Spaggie I think it is so cool that you have such great pics of your ancestors!

Grace This is one of the oldest photos I know of in my family. It is my Grandpa's Great Grandfather, John Samuel Hughes. I can tell this photo was taken shortly after the Civil War, because this man was shot in the head during the War and lived. If you look closely, one of his eyes is messed up. He was a staunch abolitionist and a Union Calvary solider (Private). The woman is his wife, Elizabeth Miller Hughes. She was the first woman in my family to serve in the military (unofficially, because women couldn't serve their country any other way) officially she was basically a QuarterMaster for her dh's unit. The next woman in my family to serve in the military was my cousin, Michelle (Army) about 120 years later. Then came her sister, Charlene (Air Force). And last so far, me (Air Force).

Grace Thanks! Dh has some photos of his family that nearly date back to the beginning of photography. I think the oldest family photos my family has are a few years pre Civil War.

Grace Okay, this is a photo of my Great, Great Uncle Luther and his family around the turn of the 20th Century. Apparently, only my cousin Richard knows the meaning of "jpg".

Grace I'm having trouble posting photos at ancestry.com This is a test to see what exactly the problem is. This should be a photo of my great grandparents and my grandpa as a newborn. If this does not work. It is a photo of my sister's kids or a pic of my grandpa's uncle's family.
