pharmgirl27 Before Olivia would nap in her crib, I would put her in her swing. I started that because her naps were getting shorter while I was holding her. She would sleep 1 to 1 1/2 hours in the swing. So, no that does not make you a bad mommy. I don't know what I would have done without that swing.

Grace better yet, leave peanut with Chris and go to a movie. Take the remote with you. I wish I would have had a swing when Kate was a baby. Dh was worse about putting her in the playpen and the bouncy seat than I was!

All I can tell you is there is a mommy way and a daddy way and the easiest point between is when he has her he does his thing and he lets you do your thing.

AWKSMOM Kim, Alexander LOVED his swing and that's where he took his naps. He even slept there at night when he had a cold. There's nothing wrong with that! Billy hated that Elizabeth didn't like the swing and wouldn't nap in it. We're hoping this next one loves the swing like Alexander did. So don't feel bad.

AndreaB the other ladies have hit the nail on the head! the swing, boucy chairs and exersaucers were invented so busy moms could actually get some stuff done!

you are a wonderful mommy!

Liz&NicksMom hon you do what you have to do.....when Nicholas liked his swing I used to do the same thing. It wa sthe only way I could get anything done

tsgirl I say do what you gotta do. I swear our dh's are related. Leave him with dd and a list as long as his arm of stuff that you normally do. Some people's kids I swear!

Have you tried one of those saucers that they can sit and play in? Bee loved that. And the Johnny Jump Up when your little one gets a little bigger. Or if I wasn't cooking at the stove or something I would just pop her in the Baby Bjorn. She loved it and I could still get stuff done.

Good Luck!

Jen Oh gosh----we took our swing along with us to Disney. Tht was about the only way we could get Maci to sleep. I was SAD when she outgrew it.

AutumnGirl Kim, you most certainly are NOT a bad Mother! Let me tell you, Sydney spent the first 8 months of her life in her swing. It was a true Godsend and an absolute MUST HAVE! Use it girl! That's what it's there for!!
02-14-2005 09:43 PM
Ekim The swing would be wonderful for that! I wish Daniel would have liked the swing so that I could have gotten stuff done.
02-14-2005 08:24 PM
Tara There is nothing wrong with putting her in the swing for a while. Nick used to sleep in his swing a lot in the beginning and I never even thought about it being bad since all his needs were met. I'm not sure I would have gotten anything done without the swing and my sling, lol.

dijuva OMG CALL CPS on me! I have put her to bed in the middle of the day because I want to watch OPRAH!
Your a GREAT mom, at least you do something productive , I just want to sit my a$$ in front of the tv!
02-14-2005 07:57 PM
KimmerRN See Lisa... I TOLD YA!!! He was TOTALLY WHALLOPED with that stupid stick.

Now ya see why I didn't ignore the stupidity last night. I ripped him a new one.
02-14-2005 07:54 PM
NicoleB Heck no! That is what the smart woman invented the swing for!
02-14-2005 07:15 PM
Meagan Gosh if I did not have the swing there is no way I could have ever gotten things done!

100 years ago they had extended families living with you and grandma there to help out. Now it is a swing!

I have been known to toss a magazine at a child...Abby will sit and tear it up for a good 20-30 minutes.

Teletubbies have always worked for my kiddos. One 30 minute episode and I could shower or talk on the phone for a while.

Becky Lisa!!!

Mumtoboo Lord, Chris really got WALLOPED with the stupid stick! Not just a lil hit, he got slammed ! More than once, I reckon !
02-14-2005 06:52 PM
Beckers I am with Becky on that! Slap him upside his head! What a butthead! There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting her in the swing!
02-14-2005 06:47 PM
Becky Oh Boy Kim you really need to that DH. How realistic does he think he is being? Next time turn off the TV and take her out of the swing, hand him a burp cloth, or heck a blanket to cover him, then hand peanut over to him and say there ya go super dad. I am going to go do something productive like wash your stinkin underware or cook your dinner and walk away
02-14-2005 06:43 PM
Shari I hear ya with the 2 children!! hee hee. Sometimes I swear I have 3!

I agree... that's what swings are for! You are NOT a bad mommy!! She NEEDS to sleep. And if that's what it takes...
02-14-2005 06:33 PM
Mumtoboo Hoeny, that's why God let someone be smart oenuff to invent the thing!

You ARE NOT a bad mommy! Just a mommy who needs a few
unencumbered minutes to get things done !
02-14-2005 06:32 PM
KimmerRN Well, my DEAR DH.... seems to think that's horrible to leave her in the swing for a while. I didn't think so. He's now on a "be careful, she's paying attention to the TV" kick. For some reason he's freaking that she will be "babysat by the TV". For krikies sake, she's only 16 weeks old! I don't think she really CARES! See... I have 2 children!
02-14-2005 06:32 PM
Beckers Becky--you are too funny!
02-14-2005 06:30 PM
Beckers Oh Kim--if I didn't have the swing when Faith was a baby, I would have never gotten anything done! I also used to put her in the sling thingy that you can put on your back or front. I would put her in that in the front so she would be close to me and I would get my stuff done around the house. That didn't last too long though because she was so big!
02-14-2005 06:26 PM
Becky Anything that gets them to nap for a bit besides drugging them ( ) is not an evil or bad thing. Why do you think they make those things?
02-14-2005 06:25 PM
karilee OMG HOW HORRIBLE!!! Yeah right! I'm quite sure you're a terrific Mom and there's absolutely nothing wrong with her taking a nap in the swing. Whatever it takes sometimes. She's happy, you're happy!

I've been having trouble with Katie not napping. I just called my husband home from work so he could put her in the van and take her for a ride. She always sleeps in the car seat.

So if you're a bad Mommy, then I am too.
02-14-2005 06:24 PM
ryann2 Yes, you are the devil.

Don't be silly, that's what the swing is for, right???
02-14-2005 06:23 PM
KimmerRN Today I really wanted the Peanut to sleep & she won't stay asleep for a nap in her room for more than 15-20 min. So... I put her in her swing so I could get things done. Is that bad?

What else do you do so you can find time to run your house and care for your kiddos at the same time?
